Makua Parent Leaders
Our Makua Parent Leaders are at the heart of Family Hui Hawaii’s work—parents and caregivers who lead with ʻike, compassion, and a deep commitment to strengthening families across our communities. Through their lived experiences and leadership, they help create welcoming spaces where families feel seen, supported, and connected.

Kevin Mateo Lim Makakilo, HI
Why you're interested in being on the advisory board:
My personal experience being mentored by Jade in the Parent Talk Story program helped me connect with some amazing people when I was brand new to Hawai'i. I want to work to make this kind of connection easy for all Hawai'i parents in her memory.
What you want for your community:
A fabric of helping each other and caring. Many are blessed with it by blood, but many are not, and there's always strength in having more connections.
What you want for your own family:
A balance of respecting our elders while doing things our way. Times are changing, so we need our kupuna for their wisdom, but can't just copy their recipe.

Brianne Walker
My name is Brianne Walker, but most people call me Bri. I’m a wife, a mom to two small humans, a daughter, sister, friend and most recently, a business owner. When I’m not working on systems change projects, I’m usually negotiating toddler treaties and attempting to drink coffee while it’s still hot. Basically, I juggle like it’s an Olympic sport.
I joined the O‘ahu Makua Advisory Hui because I’m passionate about strengthening families and community, and I love finding practical ways to make things better. I bring a background in systems thinking and project management, a deep love for sticky notes, and an ability to turn chaos into action plans.
Looking forward to working together, laughing often, and making a meaningful difference.

Kamuela Yong
Kamuela was born and raised in Waimānalo, where he continues to live with his wife and two sons. He has been actively involved in various programs with Family Hui Hawaiʻi since 2024. He enjoys participating in family-centered activities and cherishes the time spent learning and growing together with his ʻohana.
Kamuela joined the Parent Advisory Committee to help uplift and support other families in his community. He hopes to serve as a bridge—connecting ʻohana to the valuable programs and resources that Family Hui Hawaiʻi offers. He is passionate about spreading awareness of these opportunities so that more families can benefit from them, just as his own has.

Ikumi Eichelberger, Mililani
Originally from Japan, I have lived on Oahu for 10+ years. As a new mom, it means a lot to be part of a supportive community. I became a Parent Leader to contribute in a meaningful way and help create a space where families feel connected, seen, and at home.
I want to built the kind of village where my child —and other children—can grow up surrounded by kindness, belonging, and support.

Taryn Nako, Mililani
Taryn enjoys creating opportunities for caregivers of young children to come together through her early literacy storytimes in libraries around Oahu. She believes strongly in sharing awareness about what caregivers can do with their littles before they start school that leads to bonding, brain growth and social fun. Taryn has partnered with Family Hui on numerous events and loves everything they stand for. We all need a group we can call home and friends to turn to because raising kids is challenging. Together with her husband, Kory, they enjoy navigating life with their three daughters.

Tiana Carmichael-Jacobsen, Honolulu
My name is Tiana Carmichael-Jacobsen. I live with my husband and two daughters. We are a military family and are so excited to have this time living on-island. I am a huge advocate for mental health as I have my graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I love being apart of my community so being able to connect with Family Hui has been a dream. I have been able to connect with other spouses and also moms and dads who live on the island. It has been such a positive experience building my own community while we are here. I hope I can be a part of pouring into our community, uplifting others, creating safe spaces, and supporting and encouraging others during this season of life.

Sophia Lau, Honolulu
Being an umma (mom) has been the most fulfilling and challenging role Iʻve taken on yet. It has informed so many facets of my life – from my professional role to other social roles that I maintain in my family and in my community. Needless to say, it’s been a transformative experience...and I wanted more. Family Hui Hawaii’s mission statement and core values struck me because it aligned strongly with my own values and goals as a mom. I felt compelled to get involved with the organization so I can meaningfully connect with other parents in the community, learn about their experiences, and better understand what is needed to support parents in their own journey.
