This is a virtual Hui for any new parents out there. This group is for any parent with an infant under 6 months, but especially those parents whose little one spent time in the NICU.
Letʻs chat about making positivity a habit. Sometimes it can be hard to stay positive, especially when there are challenges or struggles happening in our lives but we can choose to be positive and we can choose the type of energy we engage in. Letʻs talk about ways to stay strong & positive, and Chelle will help us with some guided meditation that you can do to relax and calm yourself so that you can remain positive.
Join Heidi and Chelle for our Wellness Hui, Mindful Monday, and take a break for some self love by doing some desk yoga and talking about making time to appreciate all that you do for your keiki and your ʻohana.
Are you a Hui Parent Leader or Trained in a Parent Cafe? This is a space for our Parent Leaders to connect, chat and create space for self care for those of you that are giving back to your peers and your community.
Do you have a child under the age of 5? Are you still looking for your "pack"? Becoming a peer leader is a great way to connect and find support in your community. Becoming a peer leader is easy and fun! Stipend included.
Retelling your story lowers stress responses and connects you to self. Come reframe your narratives with Jamie and Heidi and others who share similar journeys.

Lauren is a mom who just welcomed her 6th baby into her family. She is excited to meet other parents in her community who also have babies under the age of 6 months old. This hui will meet at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens in Kane'ohe near the visitor's center.
Take some time for yourself on a Friday morning to walk, talk, and share together! Each week in March we will do a gentle walk, suitable for all fitness levels, for around 45 minutes, followed by a 30-minute talk session. All stages of pregnancy are welcome and feel free to bring older children along to walk or stroll as well.

Family Hui Hawai'i is partnering with the Student Parents at Manoa Program and the University of Hawaii Children's Center to offer a series of virtual Parent Cafe' as well as an in person Hui on Mondays starting February 26th! HDFS student Aurora will be facilitating the Hui at 12pm, take some time for yourself between classes to come connect with other student parents or student parent families. Students from all campuses or affiliations are welcome, and all student parent families can join!

Jade will be starting her Parent Talk Story sessions for families with older children and teens! Each week will have a different topic, parents are invited to attend virtually or in person to talk story with other families and share the parenting journey.
In-person Parent Talk Story sessions will be at the picnic tables by the visitors center at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens. Parent Talk Story is a great introduction to Hui sessions without the 10-week commitment.
Each Parent Cafe is a free, virtual get together of parents and families to talk and share about the journey of parenting. This month, we have four different topics, you can choose which one interests you or come to all four! Parent Cafes support parents in building their protective factors and think about self care.
Chelle will be starting a new Maui Hui! Starting on January 24th then for ten weeks on Wednesdays at 10:00am, join Chelle at Giggle Hill in Haiku to connect and reflect with other families. Each week has a discussion topic and is a wonderful way to make connections with local families across Hawai'i.
Extended 'Ohana provides support for Foster, Guardianship, Kinship, Adoptive, and Birth Families. Each Parent Cafe is facilitated by Jamie McOuat, a resource caregiver.

Thank you for everyone who came to our A Very Hui Halloween event at Maui Nui Botanical Gardens! We had a blast and we hope you did too! We got to connect with families, listen to some music by Uncle Wayne and the Howling Dog Band, do some crafts and support families by providing Mālama Kits to support parents and their keiki.
We will be holding smaller event, A Taste of Hui, on November 30th from 3pm to 4pm at Maui Nui Botanical Gardens for families to connect and learn more about Family Hui Hawai'i! Join Heidi and our other Parent Leaders in the beautiful gardens for another fun day!

Family Hui Hawai'i is busy finding ways to support our Maui families. This month, all of our Parent Cafe' are geared toward Maui, however they are very much still open to families on ALL islands. If you are on Maui, we are hosting a Very Hui Halloween at the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens on October 30, Monday 9am-12:30. We will have Uncle Wayne and The Howling Dog Band performing as well as tons of crafts, books and of course trick or treat for your littles.
The past month has been devastating for our beautiful sister island, Maui. We have all gone through the range of emotions, from disbelief to grief to witnessing the power of the aloha spirit and a deep sense of community. The banyan tree in Lahaina still stands as a symbol of hope, survival and perseverance for all. Our hearts continue to grieve with Maui. If you are looking for ways to give to the ongoing needs of the community on Maui, please consider the Hawaii Community Foundation.
Family Hui Hawai'i will continue to support parents as we struggle to process this tragedy.
This month we are pleased to invite Parenting Expert Kathy Bentley for a workshop on how to talk to you children about difficult situations. We are hosting 2 Parent Cafe' and we are super excited about the new toddler Hui starting up in Kailua!

Sadly, our summer days are coming to an end, but what an amazing and memorable time it was. We hope your days were filled with sun, sand and time spent with family and friends. This month, we are back with engaging Parent Cafe' offerings, an online Hui in the NICU, paid Peer Hui Leader Trainings and a paid three day training in our Parent Cafe.

Since 2020, we have been offering our virtual Parent Cafe' series. This online Hui offers a safe space to talk about parenting, your relationship with yourself and with others and social issues as well. The most important aspect about these cafe's is that they are for parents, by parents and with parents. We would love to train you to be a part of our Parent Cafe' network. Family Hui Hawai'i is certified by Be Strong Families to offer this 3 day virtual training to you. Compensation for the training as well as for participating in hosting would bring some additional income into your family. Please join us for this exciting opportunity.
We hope you are all having a summer full of carefree days and toes in the sand and enjoying all that Hawai'i has to offer. Here is what's happening at Family Hui Hawai'i for the month of July. A new program this month is Hui in the NICU - a safe space for families to meet online if your family has experienced a NICU stay with your child. As always, we have virtuala Parent Cafe' offerings to check out below and while we don't have a new Hui starting this month, word on the street is that we have one coming to the Windward side very soon. Keep an eye out for that!

Hui Happenings for May
May is the month we celebrate moms and coincidentally it is also the month of Mental Health Awareness. Hmmm...How can we bring these two things together? Well our Parent Cafe' offerings are all about mental health for our mamas and our Keiki. A big component in our wellness is self-care. Remember, self care is NOT selfish
We have two Hui to offer you this month. Please note that our neighborhood Hui run for 10 weeks. This gives your group time to learn about each other in a supportive, loving environment. We ask that you commit to the 10 weeks to honor the group dynamic.
We are excited about our fundraiser Tea on the Vine on May 7th at Oahu Country Club. We are hoping to raise funds to keep our programs free and accessible to all.

We have 2 Hui Peer Leader Trainings scheduled for this month on May 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM(in-person) and on May 30, 2023 at 10:00 AM (virtual). Please see our calendar of events to join!
Tiane is a first time mama to a 3 year old boy. Her Hui in Pearl City on Wednesdays at 9:30 AM started on April 29th but there are still room for more families. This Hui is perfect for those with children between 3-4 years of age.
Ania is a mama to a 1 year old girl. She will be starting her Hui on May 17th. Her hui will be on Wednesdays at Moanalua Valley Neighborhood Park at 9 AM. This Hui is perfect for those with children around 1 years old.
The Mental Load of Caretaking: Parenting Through the Child Welfare System
Emotional Exhaustion, Burnout, Anxiety and Depression, Sleep Deprivation, Not Prioritizing Healthy Eating and Exercising. These may be the results of the Invisible Work we do as Resource Caregivers. Come share in this Parent Café to lighten your load.

Tiane is a first time mama to a 3 year old boy. She will be starting her Hui in Pearl City on Wednesdays at 9:30am beginning April 19th. This Hui is perfect for those with children between 3-4 years of age.

Raymi is a mama to 3 and she is looking forward to meeting families in her neighborhood. This Baby Hui will run on Fridays at 10:30 am in East Honolulu. This is a perfect group for those with babies 0-12 months old
Adriana is excited to meet other families with 4-5 year olds. This Hui will run on Saturday mornings in order to accommodate working parents. Feel free to bring your partner to this fun Hui!
